Going Green for the 4th!
Thursday 07-03-2008 11:51am CT
Are you ready to party this 4th of July?  I know you are ready for it!  Lots of BBQ and food and sweets and fireworks and family and friends!  And that's right, some cold ones!

But as you are celebrating your independence this holiday weekend, remember to look out for the planet, too.  And it's SO EASY!  If you recycle nothing else this weekend, please set a bucket or a box or a bag aside to recycle those aluminum cans!

The Single Most Important Thing to Recycle

posted by Annie B. Bond Jun 26, 2008 3:00 pm

Guess which electronic piece of equipment you can run for three hours
because of the energy savings of recycling just one aluminum can?

Answer: A computer or a television set!

Aluminum is the most abundant metal on Earth. It takes 95 percent less energy to make a new aluminum can from recycled aluminum cans.

The aluminum can you recycle today will be back as a new aluminum can in 60-90 days.

Whether it's beer, soda, or juice, it's so easy to toss your cans in a separate container and bring them down to the recycling center on Monday.  Every little bit we can do to help out the environment helps out all of us!

So go out there, have yourself a fabulous holiday weekend, celebrate your independence, and have a burger for me!  Oh yeah, and spend the weekend with me as we turn it up Block Party-style ALL WEEKEND LONG!!!

Let me know what you're up to this weekend, and I'll try to give ya a shout out!
Happy 4th everybody!!!

Toyota and the Great Smoky Mountains
Friday 06-27-2008 3:43pm CT
It seems like everyone is going a little greener these days, which I think is awesome!  Crockett and I try to do as much as we can, even in the little ways, to help our environment.  But it all starts with learning about our environment and learning how to take care of it.

Which is now going to be a lot easier for all the great Education Programs at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  This week, Toyota made a $1 Million donation to help "enhance and develop a variety of new science education initiatives for K-12 students, teachers and families to encourage careers in science and service-learning opportunities." (according to Examiner.com).

With a contribution like this, just imagine all the cool stuff the Great Smoky Moutains National Park can do!  They plan to develop programs for kids of all ages - which means kids like me can get down and dirty learning about the environment, too.  And the donation even covers more teachers to show students the way!

It's very important, especially nowadays, to be as conscious as you can about the world around you.  Recycle, turn off lights you're not using, turn that AC up just a couple degrees.  There are so many little things you can do, why not try a few?

Let me know how you're helping save the planet in your own way!  And keep up the good work!
Our World - 41 Years Later
Wednesday 06-25-2008 12:20pm CT
Today marks the 41st Anniversary of "Our World" - the first major televised global satellite hookup that broadcast to 5 continents.  And it's the day when the Beatles, picked to represent the UK, first graced us with one of their most loved (if you'll pardon the pun) and most famous songs.

The Beatles debuted this song to almost 400 million viewers, live from Abby Road Studios.  And yes, that is Mick Jagger in the background.  Also in attendence were Eric Clapton and Keith Richards among others.

Lennon actually, it is said, wrote "All You Need Is Love", just for this event!  It didn't hit an album until later on in 1967 when it was included on Magical Mystery Tour.  It did, however, become the Beatles's 14th number one song in August of 1967, or as most of us now know it - The Summer of Love!

The Beatles are one of those bands whose music obviously stands the test of time.  "All You Need Is Love" is as relevant today, and, I think, as important, as it was in 1967.  What other songs or bands do you think stand up like the Beatles?  Click here to let me know!

And remember - All You Need Is LOVE!
First Birthdays!!!
Friday 06-20-2008 3:40pm CT
A very special birthday wish is going out this weekend to the cutest little one-year-old in the world!!!

My nephew Ronan turns ONE today!  I can't believe it!  He's the coolest little kid I've ever known.  He's walking!  He's got a bunch of teeth in that little grin!  He's got some pretty darn cool parents!  And, he's having a monster birthday bash this weekend!

Remember when you were one?  Yeah, me neither.  But I've seen pictures!  And if he's anything like his Auntie Reilly, he'll be covered in chocolate frosting in no time!

A happy birthday to all of you celebrating this weekend!  Let me know when your birthday's coming up, and I'll try to give you a shout out, too!

And an extra special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to ROANIE BALONEY!!!
