About Da Dawg
He started doing sportstalk in the early 80's after his miniscule College Football career ended with a knee injury. "I was a Run-stopping Linebacker in a Passing Conference, so I was only in on third-and-short situations anyways". When he couldn't play anymore, the radio station at Weber State University asked The DogFather if he would do sports for the station. That's all he needed, he was off and running. Radio took him all over, and every place he went he made his mark....or rather....LEFT his mark. "They're still cleaning up after an incident I left in California". Tim has done his talk show in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, Denver and Cincinnati. He also spent two years as a Nationally Syndicated Host on the Sports Entertainment Network, and One on One Sports Radio Network (now Sporting News Radio). He is an 8-time Sportscaster of the Year in three states, and has been recognized for his sports reporting, anchoring and play by play by the Associated Press, California Broadcasters Assoc., Utah Broadcasters Assoc,. Colorado Broadcasters Assoc. and has multiple Golden Mic, Mark Twain and Society of Professional Journalists awards.
The Big Dog was a fixture in Cincinnati Radio in the 90's, starting The Score and was the station's only local host, and its Program Director. In 2001, he packed up the family and moved out west....developing a Fox Sports Station in Salt Lake City. Later moving to Denver to work for an ESPN station, and KOA -- The home of the Broncos and Rockies.
Tim has covered and/or done shows from 3 Super Bowls, 2 NBA Finals, 2 NCAA Final Fours, 6 Kentucky Derbys and 1 World Series. Not to mention the countless number of College Football and Basketball games he's covered, broadcast, attended or been thrown out of . WHAT?
He has coached football from Pop Warner to Semi-Pro, and loves the interaction with kids learning the game and those still hanging onto the game.
He counts his biggest accomplishment at being the Father of 5 boys. The oldest is 21 and in College at Arizona State, the youngest is 9, and is a true 'Mini-me'. He is married to Rhonda, an Insurance Agent and they make their home on the West Side of Cincinnati.

Not Karl Malone, Derek Fisher, Rick Fox, Scottie Pippen, Steve Kerr, Bill Cartwright or Smush Parker (OK, so he might not belong).
No, the player Jackson called the greatest that he has coached is that wedding dress aficionado and Newport Beach police’s favorite basketball bad boy, Dennis Rodman.
Whoa...hold the phone!! Is Jackson serious? There is no way he can be serious. Somewhere I can hear John McEnroe, saying the same thing. It's obvious that Phil has been flammin' a few too many bowls lately. Rodman, while a GREAT Rebounder, and Defensive player....was no where near any of these guys in complete games....
Obviously MJ... Not only was MJ a Scoring Champ, He was usually on the All NBA Defensive Team. NO ONE WAS BETTER THAN MJ....NO ONE
The Mailman.. Karl Malone was a scoring maching, and a defensive standout. He would often play the other team's 7-footers on Defense. He played almost the entire game, rarely missed games his entire career. He would also give Rodman fits in their two NBA Finals meetings in the 90's.
How about Shaq... I know he has huge liabilities at the Free Throw line, but at his height, no one was more intimidating, and he led his team, not Kobe's team...to being World Champions.
I don't care for Kobe..it's personal.... but even the Kobester is more well-rounded.
I know where Phil is coming from. And read the article above.....but give me a break. It doesn't take a fanatic to realize that Rodman is no where near the place these guys are.
..."He was very close to returning, but the great part about Michael is that he takes his time to think about things and he is very thorough," Tony Agnone said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday night. "You can get excited about coming back and running through the tunnel one more time."
...Kearse, a reclamation project eager to restore his name in the city he built it. Odds are likely that he's more of a situational player than wants to be, but his durability and the play of the other ends will determine the extent of his role.
...Former NBA player Wayman Tisdale had part of his right leg amputated Monday because of bone cancer.
Tisdale, 44, revealed on his Web site that the surgery was scheduled for Monday. His wife, Regina, told The Associated Press on Tuesday night the surgery had taken place as planned.
...Kevin Duckworth, a two-time All-Star who was the starting center on the Portland Trail Blazer teams that made it to the 1990 and 1992 NBA Finals, has died of unknown causes.
The seven-foot center played in the NBA from 1986-1997. Most of those years he was in Portland, although at the end of his career he played for the Bullets, Bucks, and Clippers.
If you don't think turnover margin is the most important stat in football, read the numbers:
USC (34) went 22-4 the past two years (14-4 in conference) with a plus-six for the seasons combined. It went 48-4 the previous four seasons (30-2 in conference) with a plus-78.
Cincinnati (35) was a plus-16 last year while going a surprising 10-3. It was a minus-18 the previous three years while going 19-17.
TCU (36) was a minus-seven in a disappointing 8-5 season. The previous two years it was a plus-28 while going 22-3.
Boise State (37) has had two seasons in the past six with three or more losses. Average turnover margin in those years: minus-3.5. It has had four seasons of one or fewer losses in the past six. Average turnover margin in those years: plus-9.8.
Under Charlie Weis, Notre Dame (38) is a plus-15 turnovers in two winning seasons and a net zero in one losing season.
....After overwhelming everyone for seven games, the Americans led by only four points with under 2½ minutes to play. Then the U.S. proved it could handle a close game that seemed would never come in Beijing.
Their prize: the first U.S. gold medal since the 2000 Olympics.
The Games are now over. The Americans won 110 medals. A record for any Olympics held on foreign soil. This re-DREAM team restored my faith in our place as THE DOMINATORS of the world at a sport WE created. Way to go Kobe and Krew.
....The IOC said Friday there is still no proof anyone cheated, though it asked the International Gymnastics Federation to investigate “what have been a number of questions and apparent discrepancies,” spokeswoman Giselle Davies said. However, all the information the Chinese gymnastics federation presented supports its insistence that its athletes were old enough to compete.
This Sucks!! Anyone with half a brain can see they are NOT 16. Can't prove it! False documents doctored for them to compete. They are a bunch of cheaters.Of course...they beat every other country, so I guess we should take our beating and leave the country.
Other Olympics Highlights Thursday:
U.S. Men's Volleyball..
The U.S. men's volleyball team will play for the Olympic gold medal after defeating Russia in five sets.
With the 25-22, 25-21, 25-27, 22-25 15-13 victory Friday, the U.S. men remain undefeated in Beijing.
They will face the winner of the late semifinal between Brazil and Italy in the title match Sunday. Russia will face the loser in the bronze medal match.
The U.S. won Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988, before winning the bronze in 1994. But the closest they've gotten since then was a fourth-place finish at the 2004 Athens games.
...The tallest player in the tournament at 6-foot-9, with a wingspan and jump that can bring him 43 inches above the 8-foot high net, the bald bullet known as "The Thin Beast" had nine blocks in the gold medal match. He had three in a row -- and five overall in the third set -- to turn a comfortable 6-1 lead into a 9-1 runaway
... In softball’s final appearance for at least eight years—and perhaps for good—the good-as-gold Americans met their match.
Behind a rubber-armed pitcher who stared down the world’s mightiest lineup and never blinked, Japan stunned the U.S. team 3-1 on Thursday, denying the Americans a fourth straight gold medal in the sport’s last swing until at least 2016.
The loss was the first for the Americans since Sept. 21, 2000 at the Sydney Games. They had won 22 in a row, most by outrageously lopsided scores. With power pitchers, power hitters, power everything, the Americans set the standard and showed no signs of slowing down.
I am all about humility...but this BITES! These women worked their beautiful butts off, and yet lose to Japan. We won't see softball in the Olympics again until maybe 2016. Drag!
...As a player and union leader, Upshaw was all about team, all about protection and, most importantly, all about the game. His loss comes with the NFL at a crossroads after two decades of labor peace that Upshaw helped foster with retired commissioner Paul Tagliabue

Titans End Camp, 5 Positive Notes Tennessean -- Jim Wyatt ...Training camp, which always seems like such a blur to so many players, came to an end for the Titans on Wednesday with an annual ritual that forces the rookies into extreme dizziness. After 32 practices, the Titans still might not be ready for the regular-season opener against the Jaguars on Sept. 7, but some things about the 2008 edition of the team are coming into focus
...MARSALOUS JOHNSON, CB: The former Smyrna High School standout started the first seven games last season before a knee injury sidelined him for the season. UT secondary Coach Larry Slade raved about Johnson before the injury. Now, with so much talk about UT’s stellar safeties, Johnson could bring some positive attention to the cornerbacks.
Did you See Usain Bolt's Run in the 200Meters Wednesday?
It was so unbelievable!! I think this might be the highlight so far. Michael Phelps was great, the young gals winning their medals in gymnastic...all good. BUT c'mon...the way Bolt has destroyed his opponents. Complete and utter destruction.... I am in AWE.
...It remains the most arresting track and field moment I have ever witnessed live.
Better than either of Usain Bolt's world records this year. Better than Jonathan Edwards' 60-foot triple jump at Göteborg, Sweden, at the 1995 worlds. Better than Haile Gabrselassie holding off Paul Tergat to the win the 10,000 meters at the Sydney Olympics. Better than the 800-meter Oregon sweep at the Olympic trials at Eugene's Hayward Field two months ago.
And don't get me wrong: Those things -- and many others -- were breathtaking and memorable.
None of them resonates like Michael Johnson's 200-meter gold medal and generation-skipping world record of 19.32 seconds on the night of Aug. 1, 1996, at the Atlanta Olympic Games.
...The U.S. didn't win team gold as the Magnificent Seven did in Atlanta 12 years ago, instead earning silver against host China. Yet overall this team won eight medals, tying the 1984 team silver-medal winners. The 1996 team won four.
Little Engine that could Shawn Johnson. What a beautiful performance on the beam!! All 4-foot-9 inches of her stood tall. Very nice Gold Medal Shawn!
...Caitlin Lowe singled home Natahsa Watley in the ninth inning Wednesday to break a scoreless tie and Crystal Bustos followed a batter later with her Olympic-record 13th career home run to send the USA past Japan 4-1 and into Thursday's final where the Americans will play for their fourth consecutive Olympic softball gold medal.
Bustos Hit the Walkoff HR in extra Innings to defeat the Japanese, and extend the Americans Internation string of victories to 22.
...The decision to re-sign Henry, who was arrested five times in three years as a Bengals employee, does not have universal support in the locker room. Some players said during training camp that they welcomed the dismissals of Henry and linebacker Odell Thurman and viewed their repeated off-field problems as a distraction that hurt the team.
The kid has all the talent in the world, but has a 2-cent head. I am a turn the cheek guy...not a three strikes and your out guy. You only get one chance in my opinion....if you continue to play me for a fool...you're gone. This is part of the reason the Bengals never win!! Owner Mike Brown. Definately not his Father Paul. Ugh..
....Liukin wore a smile that lit up her face as she climbed atop the medals podium and waved to the crowd. She blinked back tears as the gold medal was placed around her neck, but let them flow when the U.S. anthem began to play.
"Standing on the podium and hearing `Olympic champion' next to my name was a dream come true," Liukin said. "Everything pays off at this very moment."
...His success represents one of those rare moments in sports when the stars align to produce an awe-inspiring feat: an athlete with unique talent, focus, stamina and versatility, fast in each of swimming's four strokes at a time when specialization and growth of the sport worldwide have made it tougher than ever to be dominant
Swedish MeatBall Throws Hit Bronze in Ring, then Quits.
What a complete tool!!! I thought the French were a tad testy....apparently this Swede doesn't understand just how cool it is to be in the Top-3 of the world in his sport. If you wanted the Gold Medal Chunky...you should have fought harder. What an Ass.
...Please grasp what we're witnessing here. In a time when evolution and technology make it almost impossible to dominate any slice of life, Michael Phelps is obliterating his. And he's doing so with the most hellish schedule in Olympic history, requiring him to compete in the pool 17 times in eight days while trying to squeeze sleep and meals and texts and occasional games of spades into those 192 hours
5 Pics of Phelps to go with his 5 Gold Medals....
Going after Spitz record now. 8 Golds in one Olympics. This is the most amazing performance, and no one is really impressed. Everyone I talk to is not that enamoured. Are you kidding? This is AWESOME!! Domination!! He has set world records in every event. C'mon folks. Superb. You gotta give it up to the BEST OLYMPIAN EVER!! Not Carl Lewis, Not Edwin Moses, NOT Mark Spitz. It's the greatest effort by a single athlete in the History of the world, and you are missing it.
Hey...Question? Do any of these Chinese Gymnasts look 16 to you?
I know they are the host country....but they are cheating!! I smell another Little League World Series rat here. C'mon. I have five children. Four of them are older than 16. Not a one ever looked this young. Please China....do you think we're stupid?
OUR girls look 16. YES they do! I will take silver. Congrats ladies!!
I know she is above the age line. You gotta luv ya a little Alicia Sacramone. Too bad she fell off the beam, and the floor...it cost the U.S. the gold...but she is all woman, jack!!
...The only people who didn't enjoy the awe-inspiring Opening Ceremony of the XXIX Olympic Summer Games had to be the folks with the London Olympic organizing committee. They host the 2012 Summer Games, meaning they have to follow the greatest show on Earth -- and, for my yuan, the greatest show in Opening Ceremony history.
If I were the Brits, I'd punt and go with Monty Python reruns.
These were the most Colorful, Vibrant, Well-Organized, Intimidating Opening Ceremonies I have ever seen!! I actually was at the 2002 games in Salt Lake City, and that was incredibly emotional being the first games held after 9-11. I was caught up with a sense of Patriotism that night.
Especially when the 1980 US Hockey Team came out as "The Surprise" to light the cauldron...
To this day that was the most emotional moment in sports for me.....and I have attended everything you can think of......the '88 World Series the Dodger's won after Kirk Gibson's game 1 heroics...
...to the 1997 NBA Playoffs when John Stockton hit the shot against the Rockets to send the Utah Jazz to the NBA Finals for the 1st time against the Bulls...
I have been blessed to see some great moments in person....
But..watching these games on TV....you got a real impression of the discipline of the Chinese people, and what these games mean to them. Forget the huge political undertones that threaten to undermine the games.....for "One Shining Moment" Friday night...China Delivered.
I only hope the games themselves will live up to the wonderful display on opening night!!

Dogg Blogg 08.08.08 (One of those days...play the Lottery or something)
...At first glance, it would appear Favre took quite a tumble going from a young and talented Packers offense that was surprisingly ranked No. 2 last season to a Jets offense that slumped all the way to 26th in 2007. But that gap is deceivingly large based on New York's current roster and its offseason upgrades
...Usually, TV sports game plans are pretty simple.
Go to stadiums or arenas and set up cameras and announcers where you've put them before. Call the TV timeouts. Get the facts right. Show the game.
Prime-time Olympic TV is the opposite. You can pick or choose what — and how much — action to show. And who — and how many — athletes to interview and features to air. And by the way, you'll have to build mass audiences for sports few viewers watch outside the Games — or even understand.
...Sharon Meyer of De Pere, who has sold cold drinks and souvenirs at training camp for several years, said crowds Wednesday "were a quarter of the size when people thought Brett Favre would be here. The majority of people are not happy with the idea he may be traded."Todd Brown of Green Bay held up a "Bring Brett back" sign Wednesday morning. Brown said he was disappointed with the way Favre was treated by Packers management and said he urged coach Mike McCarthy to apologize to Favre.
...When it became apparent Favre was not going to be able to patch things up with the Packers, McCarthy tried to sell Favre on playing for the Jets, a team whose coach he wasn't that familiar with, a source close to the Packers said. Favre indicated to McCarthy that he thought the Jets had more talent than the Buccaneers and started to consider them.
...It's a move that completely alters the face of the Jets franchise and immediately has a chance to make the 2008 season something special. The move gives the Jets their most iconic player since the days of Joe Namath.
Really? Joe Namath?
I think stupid sportswriters, and I will put myself in that category at times....make the dumbest dumbass remarks at times. Yes Brett Favre will be a Hall of Famer. But, C'mon!! Joe "Willie" Namath? "Broadway" Joe? He was New York. He was the Big Apple. Favre is country hick. You'd never catch him in New York unless he was working there. In fact outside the 5 times he has played in the Meadowlands, (3-2 record) I bet he has never been there otherwise. But...when you consider all the crap the Jets have had at QB over the years...that might be a correct statement. I mean, besides Boomer Esaison, who has been worth their salt since JOE? All I can say is Thank God this is OVER!!
...So while the Packers were practicing on Clarke Hinkle Field, Favre turned his sights to the two teams that have shown a keen interest in acquiring him for the past week or more, the Bucs and Jets.
The source said the Bucs and Cook were making progress in their talks and that Favre is considering playing for Tampa Bay, though the Jets couldn’t be ruled out. The salary cap shouldn’t be an issue for Tampa Bay because the Bucs are $26 million under this year’s cap; Favre is scheduled to make a $12 million salary.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that both the Bucs and Jets spoke directly to Favre on Tuesday evening, though the source familiar with the negotiations couldn’t confirm that.
...The Tribune has learned Favre will not stand in the way of a trade from Green Bay to Tampa Bay and the deal is likely to be finalized within 24 hours.
The chances of the trade unraveling are remote and Favre has indicated to the Bucs directly that he is willing to change teams after 16 years of growing his legend in Green Bay.
...Titans wide receiver Paul Williams still thinks about the day nearly eight years ago when he stared down at his older brother's motionless and shrunken body.
Curtis Williams rested on a small bed at Stanford University Medical Center, his C-1 and C-2 vertebrae damaged beyond repair. The University of Washington safety had not left the facility since his collision with an opposing running back weeks earlier.
Olympics begin on Friday in China...
This will be the first Olympics were outdoor events could be determined by Mask or No Mask. The condition of the air is so bad, it actually settles on your clothes. It is a hideous brown, sooty, humid, disgusting sludge, that could make you wheeze and cough worse than Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in Tombstone.
...For the second time in a year, Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen may have to explain his alleged participation in a situation involving alcohol.
And at least two other teammates might be doing some explaining with him.
Notre Dame will investigate possible school code violations after the Web site The Big Lead posted photos Monday that appear to depict Clausen, teammates Brian Smith and James Aldridge and one other individual attending what the site labeled "Beer Olympics."
...Patriots coach Bill Belichick yesterday said he and Seau have spoken. Whether that means the future Hall of Famer plans to return for a 19th season remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say Seau wouldn’t need much camp to get ready for the season. The Patriots are at the roster limit of 80 players and would need to cut someone to make room for Seau, who underwent offseason shoulder surgery.
....We don't have to wait to find out how a team would fare with the suddenly un-retired cover boy Brett Favre at the helm. EA Sports has used its Madden NFL 09 game engine to simulate the 2008 seasons of these four teams with and without Favre as their quarterback: Bucs, Jets, Packers and Vikings.
Keith Law says ... If Ramirez stops mailing in various at-bats and hits toward the right-tail end of his abilities, the Dodgers have just made a quick two-win upgrade in exchange for a good player they weren't going to use and a quality prospect, and they didn't have to add to their payroll. … More Complete story | Team pages:Dodgers | Red Sox | Pirates
