The Clash's Joe Strummer is born.

1965

Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire is released.

1965

Out of Our Heads by the Rolling Stones tops the US Album Charts.

1967

Bob Dylan renews his contract with Columbia Records. He had worked out a deal with MGM Records, but since they had not countersigned the deal, Columbia makes its move first.

1972

Akron Police mix it up with Grace Slick and Paul Kantner at a concert at the Akron Rubber Bowl. Slick gets maced and Kantner is slammed to the floor when the two went to check on Jack Cassidy. Cassidy had been hauled off stage for protesting police firing tear gas into the crowd.

1976

The Rolling Stones top the bill over Todd Rundgren, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 10cc and others at England's annual Knebworth Festival. The concert is held in front of 200,000 fans and is played up as the last Stones show ever to be held in Britain.

1976

In what was billed as the last Stones Concert to be held, Mick and the boys headline England's Knebworth Festival.

1994

John Denver is charge with drunk driving after he is involved in a single car crash.

1995

R.E.M. sues Hershey Foods, claiming the company exploited its name when it ran a "Kit Kat - R.E.M. concert" sweepstakes in Hershey candy bars. The suit was eventually dropped.

1996

Former Talking Heads lead singer David Byrne sued to prevent the rest of the group from touring as "The Heads." The suit was settled out of court.

1997

At a press conference in the San Francisco Hard Rock Cafe, Carlos Santana unveiled a limited-edition t-shirt bearing his artwork. He autographed 500 of the shirts for distribution to foreign and domestic markets.
